Attendance: |
Since we only meet one day a week, attendance is very important. Students may miss two class sessions without penalty. If you must be absent, be sure to use these ‘buffer days’ wisely. Once a student misses more than two classes, each absence will reduce the attendance grade by 15 points for each day missed. Absences which are due to documented SCC functions (ie. field trip for another class) are not counted.
Please view the document which outlines the affect that poor attendance will have on your average. When absent, students are responsible for finding out what they missed by checking with their classmates and/or instructor so the assignment can still be completed on time.
Tardiness is defined as being 10 or more minutes late for class. Three instances of tardiness will be counted as one absence.
Class participation is important and activities that disrupt class or distract other students such as recreational use of the PC or side conversations during lecture/class discussion will result in an absence. If you complete the assigned work early, you are encouraged to either help others who may be struggling, work ahead, study, or focus on assignments due for other courses. Please be considerate of your fellow students and respectful of your instructor. |
Project and Project Checkup: |
We
will work on one real world hands on projects during the semester.
I will tell you more about these projects in class. As you can see by the weight of this portion, this is a major part of your overall grade. |
| Presentation: |
You will
have to present your whole portfolio at the end of the semester. |
Weekly Articles: |
Each
student will be required to bring a current article to class each week
with a typed summary of the article. The article
summary must be completed before the beginning of
the class that it is due. The typed summary must be at
least 1/2 a page in length. The article can be out
of magazines, newspapers, or off the Internet. It needs to focus on any new technolgy that you have learned about. You will have to present
the article to the class on the day it is due. |
Withdrawal
Date and Procedure: |
The
last day to withdraw from this class
is Tuesday,
March 31st. To initiate
this procedure, you must talk to
your advisor about withdrawing before
this date. |
Academic Integrity
Statement: |
Plagiarism, cheating,
and other forms of academic dishonesty
are prohibited. In addition to other
possible disciplinary sanctions, which
may be imposed through the regular
institutional procedures as a result
of academic misconduct, your instructor
will assign an "F" for the exercise
or examination that evidences academic
misconduct for the first offense and
assign an "F" for the course for repeated
offenses. |
Other: |
1)
Any students with special needs should let me know of these
needs within the first week of class, so we can make the appropriate
arrangements.
2) It is unacceptable to play games during class. During the lecture
portion of class you may not type or have anything open unless we are
discussing it at the time.
3) All cell phones must be cutoff. This is educational time. Class does
not need to be interrupted by a student leaving class to answer a cell
phone call. The only exception to this is if you let me know at the beginning of class that
you will be receiving an emergency call and you can put your phone on
vibrate.
4) Inappropriate behavior during class presentations distracts your
instructor and classmates and is, therefore, unacceptable. You may
be dismissed from class if your behavior disrupts classroom activities. |
I reserve the right to modify this syllabus,
either verbally or in writing, as is necessary to meet
our course objectives. |
