Course Description:

This course introduces students to the server-side, HTML-embedded scripting language PHP. Emphasis is placed on programming techniques required to create dynamic web pages using PHP scripting language features. Upon completion, students should be able to design, code, test, debug , and create a dynamic web site using the PHP scripting language.

Objectives:

  • Develop dynamic web pages using PHP
  • Understand Arrays, Loops, and If Statements with PHP
  • Have the capabilities to modify, add, and delete data in a database with PHP
  • Design cookies on a website using PHP
  • Develop an online shopping cart with PHP

Projects: You will work on many different Projects throughout the semester. As you can see by the percentage, this is a major component of the class.

Discussion Board:

You will have to respond to different topics in the Discussion Board portion of Blackboard.

Final Project: The final project will be assigned at the end of the semester. It will bring together all of the things we have covered throughout the semester.

Articles:

Each student will be required to research a current PHP article and email me a typed summary of the article. The typed summary must be at least 1/2 a page in length and saved as a Word document (.doc/.docx) or as Rich Text Format (.rtf). The article can be out of magazines, newspapers, or on the Internet. The due dates for the articles are: August 28th, September 11th, September 25th, and October 9th.

Withdrawal Date and   Procedure:

The last day to withdraw from this class is Thursday, September 24th. To initiate this procedure, you must talk to your advisor about withdrawing before this date.

In addition to other possible disciplinary sanctions, which may be imposed through the regular institutional procedures as a result of academic misconduct, your instructor will assign an "F" for the exercise or examination that evidences academic misconduct for the first offense and assign an "F" for the course for repeated offenses.

Blackboard This course is web-centered (fully online). Assignments are completed online either at home or on campus. Be sure to check this course on the website often for announcements and upcoming assignments. Check your email often as well. I will only use your student email account to send email to all students.
